A comical view on chess

Submitted by emiab on Sun, 05/25/2008 at 12:37pm.

I need to thank Terry Pratchett for all his books, but for Thud ! in particular since after reading it my love for chess bloomed again. He has a very particular writing style, he makes you laugh and cry at the moment he chooses so .

I cannot help but post here what he said about chess  in one note of his book :

"Vimes had never got on with any game much more complex than darts. Chess in particular has always annoyed him. It was the dumb way the pawn went off and slaughtered their fellow pawns while the kings lounged about doing nothing that always got to him ; if only the pawns united , maybe talked the rooks round, the whole board could've been a republic in a dozen moves." ( Terry Pratchett, Thud! , Corgi Books ).

for smb with talent Rael . If you do have the chance read Thud ! . You will get at some point where the game with the same name is explained . Again, a resemblance to chess.

Ahaha! That's fantastic. In fact, it would be a neat thing to expand upon - perhaps a short story or at least a script of dialogue... hmm.
