I am the champ

Submitted by ericmittens on Thu, 06/11/2009 at 7:39pm.

I needed only a half point to take sole first place in my section tonight. My opponent seemed more than happy to oblige and we made a short draw to seal the deal. I won some cash and a nice big trophy which I will post pictures of later. Now onto the next project....Edmonton 2009!

edit: Ah by the way my final score was 10.5/13 with +8=5-0

Here is my embarassingly short draw with some comments.

Mmmm yes I agree with you about black not solidifying his center, definitely attacking the e5 pawn would have been a big part of any forthcoming plans.

I think probably my posting will decrease for the next month or so as all I'll really be doing is preparing for Edmonton and trying to get used to my new white repertoire. Actually I managed to track down some torrents for all of Khalifman's opening repertoire according to kramnik books! That'll save me a giant load of money and Avrukh's d4 repertoire book is in the mail.

Speaking of torrents, I downloaded all of Daniel King's "power play" DVDs from chessbase (1-9) and will be going through all of them as my training for Edmonton. Ahh the internet...always saving me loads of cash Laughing

Oh I didn't even say earlier- great job. I had fun as a (hopefully constructive) critic of these games, and I hope you keep posting.

Well, I know it's a reversed open sicilian, but if you consider your development scheme and black's Bc5, it is much more like a Reti opening in which white played cxd5. Black's extra tempi (e5 in one move rather than e6 and e5, etc) would have worked in White's favor simpply because it projects development before solidifying the center (which white now has a 2-1 predominance of pawns in). With the typical ...c6 idea vs the Reti, white would not get so much from the cd exchange. That's the way I'm looking at it, due to the b3 Bb2 structure.
