This is the Traxler Gambit, aka the Wilkes-Barre variation, a highly tactical line that has been heavily analysed, see for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_Knights_Defense#4.Ng5. Your "puzzle" is just one of many playable moves for white; 5.d4 and 5.Nxf7 are good as well. By the way, that line is usually played with 5...Ke7 6.Bd5, not 5...Kf8 Bb3.
can't you take f7 with the knight?
It's relatively easy to catch the bishop and knight's attack...
