Here is a question that I have pondered over many many times while trying to analyze my active games. Now before it gets crazy up in here let me first off admit that I am including myself in this topic since I am a low rated player too!
Okay so how do you analyze against lower rated players? You see the problem is that at a higher level of chess it may be easier to analyze a sequence of moves because you know you opponent will find the best one (okay most of the time, it is assumed). When I try to analyze my games and I find myself saying "hmm this seems like the move he should play so when he does I will respond with this move here." But you know what? A lot of the times my opponent doesn't find that move and I feel like I have then wasted a lot of time looking into lines they never play anyways (as I am sure they feel the same way about my moves 90% of the time). So here is a question to higher rated players. How then should my time be better spent? Keep analyzing anyways and things will work themselves out and get better over time, or just keep sticking to the main ideas and themes and rules that govern most chess boards? I feel like the moves I analyze out usually don't get played anyways so maybe I could have spent time studying the theory or rules of the position instead of looking for moves that probably aren't going to get played.
Does what I am saying make any sense? I am sure some of you understand my point, or does it sound like crazy chess ramblings of a confused individual lol. Maybe its a little of both. If my analyzing skills are not getting utilized either by low level analyzing (by my own analysis being that of a low level player) or by the fact that my opponents are also lower rated what should I be doing to better spend my time during my time on the clock? Strictly adhere to the rules of the board, hash out some crazy tactical plans that I think will work? Who knows, I sure don't so if you have some sound advice please respond and share your thoughts and comments with me. Thanks for any responses in advance and I will also try my best to respond back and keep a dialouge going. Chess Out,
Matthew....
