Democracy

Submitted by greatexcalibur on Mon, 08/18/2008 at 9:20pm.

It’s a good lesson worth to read because let us learn not fall into the same mistake..

And it’s about... Democracy

The main idea / question is:

Do you think we need democracy here? Or we just a bunch of people who let ourselves lead by particular person who using his/her power inappropriately (read: Power Syndrome) just because they have administrator role of a group?

And here is some of supporting questions:

What do you think if you have no right to speak your opinion freely in the group forum, while only the admin / leader can do that?

What do you think if you join a group here just passively because of some reasons, e.g.:

1.      enjoy just reading discussion / forum

2.      willing to learn more from experts’ article or opinion (note: expert here not merely meaning the group leader)

3.      love just being an observer

4.      don’t have much time to post something (just have time to read something)

5.      maybe lack of confidence because don’t know much about chess theory (instead join the group to learn more)

6.      don’t have much time because you’re busy on your work or other activities

7.      etc.. which there are thousands of motives that people join a group.. and as long as it’s not against the rule of the group, it’ll be fine.

Is it wrong?

What do you think if a leader have the right to dictate the members, in the form like telling (read: pushing with threatening) to do something within the group? Is it allowed?

As it is democracy here.. I believe there are so many answers and it’ll differ among people.. But, more than certain, if you ask people and they can answer without hesitate, without any bond/obligation to the person who affected with the answer, and they are just normal people who appreciate the freedom to speak and feel they are free people.. The answer is.. they will choose side in democracy!

Of course, there’re still members that don't care. And they fall into few categories, like the following:

1.      Don’t care about this

2.      Afraid to get kick out from group

3.      Put friendship above the rightfulness and justice (although it’s wrong)

4.      Have moral obligation to the leader (maybe because owed him something; like vote, etc)

5.      Etc

The reason for me to write this article is not to offense any particular party rather just to give you all awareness about democracy here! Not other motives!

It’s DEMOCRACY here for me!!! So, feel free to speak your opinion!!

Morale of this story:

Such RARE and INACCEPTABLE things (read: against the Democracy) do exist in here, and be careful not to fall into that!

For members: Please be careful to choose group that can accommodate your needs not just because of its popularity.

For leaders: Use your power to manage the group APPROPRIATELY, don’t get trapped in POWER SYNDROME.

I'd term the whole scenario as politics..power struggles and misunderstandings occur even in the most democratic of groups..Its a natural human behavior..there are as u put it the "i don't care" types and then there are those who want complete power...shame such things happen but thats life- Fair when everything is hunky dory and unfair when things don't go as we wish..

I think the mess in other countries who continue to persist without democracy speaks volumes, particularly the Middle East. Democracy just works!

I love Democracy and will vote democracy any day but I do not have alligence to anyone or group, I love team work when everyone respects the next person and carry each other along as a team. So yeah, lets have democracy.

Dear friends (indeed and in need),

I thank you for your continual supports here (both critics and supports). Because it's not just for my sake but for the group as a whole. As John said, we all have learned valuable lesson from what happened lately in our group. And I do hope in the future all of these will never happened again.

I dedicated this blog to everyone so they can learn from this article but not being an offense to particular person/group/association. Which is, from the very beginning I have stated in my blog.

But, unfortunately, still, there's some particular "low" persons who have his own motives (like for example, searching popularity from other persons' serious issue for his own sake, seriously got mental problem, just funny bloggers who just know to having fun) who gave unappropriate comments to already been resolved problem.

That's why I decided to edit this and cut this into very short and simple article but hopefully still reach the purpose.

And it means (sorry), I have to delete all your valuable comments that related/mentioned name! I appreciate it no matter what! Because I myself learned so much from them. Also, the other lesson that I got (outside from this topic) is now I know who's my friend indeed and in need.

Thanks and God bless you all!

Yes John, I am thinking to edit this one. And I think I will..

I am sorry I can't delete it, not because I am selfish and don't want to move on! Rather just I want this can be a good lesson for all of us, chess community.

I'll do my best so, it will not lead to any particular person or group.

Thanks for your true and honest support John! Smile

Maybe I have to make a clear statement that my conflict (due to misunderstanding) has been settled with good result! Everything is OK between us!

If you ask why this still keep aired, please read my intention to write this blog, i.e to prevent anything like this happened again (from both sides point of view)!

So, as like some funny bloggers like someone who just posting, who like to be a hero to defend some particular side, in which didn't know the real problem. Please, you're too late. The problem is settled! Don't make yourself a clown!

This is not a blog like yours which the topics is not serious. And I am not a professional (but low) blogger like you who just like search the popularity from aired blog. Rather, i just concern to what happened within my group.

So, please find another blogs to increase your popularity.
