Brilliancy Prize

It was once said that "the loser always wins the post-mortem".

Especially around the <2000 level, this couldn't be more true.  As beautiful a game as chess is when you win, there are times where overlooked wins are nothing short of crushing.

What you're about to see is my worst oversight in my OTB tournament history.  Feel free to mock and jeer! :P.

And take a look at the move list for the correct follow up to what may well have been my most brilliant moment of intuition ever.

Very observant batgirl!  Engines have a hard time with deep positional play.  In this case, black would likely get his best endgame from 15. ... a6!  Of course things like that are hard to find and white would definitely have the stronger position after 16. Bc4 e6 17. Rxf7.

Out of curiosity - in the "winning" line from move 12.  What if Black simply plays 15...a6?

I think 12.  Nxd5 wins  =)

after not taking it Black had unbelievable pressure, developing way too fast.

at least you know now what your mistake was. Now you have a true game to dream about =)

Great 'almost' brilliancy!
