Game 4 - Correspondence Matchplay

Submitted by ih8sens on Mon, 06/22/2009 at 8:29am.

Here, I would like to present a detailed analysis of the fourth game in an ongoing match between chess.com member 'Shuttlechess92' and myself.

Prior to this game I led the match 2-1 (all three games were decisive victories for the white pieces, this largely due to mutually agressive repertoires with the black pieces.)

In this game, I intended to play safely, perhaps settling for an early draw if the opportunity arose.  Such a result would be quite alright with the black pieces.

However, a highly unusual attempt at avoiding my opening preparation had me 'seeing red' and I went for the kill with black.  The game is quite interesting.  I've annotated it fully.

Instead of 4.d3 White should play 4.e3. Now, Black does well to continue 4...c6 and after 5.d4 d5 we have a position that is sometimes classified in the Slav and sometimes as part of the Gruenfeld.  Black does OK, but he's got to know what he's doing.

Bagirov, Korchnoi, Miles, and Makagonov all played the white side of this.

I agree, this game was realy interesting, but I think that he should have transpose to KID and then he would get a good game. I looked a lot of games, as I could see b4 in KID is almost WINNER move, white had preety good ratio in game I looked in that system.
