Nicholson - Dhammika (Rapid)

Submitted by ih8sens on Sun, 06/21/2009 at 11:47am.

Here's a highlight game from the latest tournament I attended.  It was my first rapid tournament and my performance score was pretty decent (thanks to a series of strong opponents rather than my own strong play).

This is a rather quick tactical crush that goes to show that cheap threats will be punished at a certain level.

One nice part about winning this game is that I overheard my opponent telling his teammate he was 'just playing a kid' :).  I was out for blood.  As an added bonus, my three teammates won their games decisively as well.  The only 4-0 score our team had in the entire tournament.

Yeah 6. d4 seems to leave white with a significant advantage.  I had intended to play it OTB but took off for a bathroom break and moved before even sitting down once I came back :P.  It wasn't a huge deal though because thanks to black's 'wasted' Qd7, he can't stop (or even restrain) my center from crashing through anyways.
