A Curious Mate

Submitted by kenytiger on Thu, 04/17/2008 at 3:00pm.

The following miniature features a curious surprising Mate. The game takes place around the early 1900's and it is a good one indeed. If anyone out there happens to know the date and location of this game, as well as information about these players, comments are welcome.

The knights' pattern in and around move 4 reminds me of the Halloween gambit.

All I could find was another game by A. Davis  (if it's, in fact, the same A. Davis)  at chessgames.com.   The game, listed as having been played in 1944,  shows  A. Davis winning with the Fegatello.
