My Most Intense Match

Submitted by killthequeen on Sat, 08/15/2009 at 3:39am.

Hi all, this is one of my recent OTB matches for the open tournament of my district. It was against the city's reigning champion, and it was my first time that I played him in a tournament. Time control was an hour each plus 10 second Fischer increment per move, though the game lasted approximately 2 and a half hours. I was white. Although I didn't win, it was by far the most intense, and closest game that I have ever played against a better opponent. This marathon game wore me out so much that I lost the next game in about 45 minutes.

Please try and help me analyse this game.

Yes I thought so that you might have been under time pressure by the end.

Thanks KCO that helped. 'Round the end though the time pressure was getting to us. I think that 5. h4 wasn't a bad move because I wanted to throw off his kingside formation. Hence h5

Why 5.h4 ? why not Nf3 or Qb3 ? develop a piece.Instead of 18.a4 maybe Ba2 something useful for the dark sq bishop.22...Qh2 would have been better for black. 28...Qf2 put the pin on the bishop. 41...Kf6? white could have continue with 42.Kc4 follow by Kb5 you would have a better chance of a promotion instead of 42.Rd7??
