The Endgame Tactician: dktransform's ending

Submitted by likesforests on Fri, 10/26/2007 at 2:54pm.

This is an exciting ending played by my friend dktransformation. I think it's practical and it contains interesting positions, mistakes, and nuggets of wisdom that we can learn from. I hope you enjoy. Please feel free to ask questions, offer alternatives, or disagree. Smile

 Note:

  • Click on "Move List" to see possible variations.
  • Symbols like =, +=, +/-, ??, and ! are briefly explained here.
  • They were playing at 10" + 4" time. That means only 4 seconds per move!

mathijs> Doesn't 38...Kf8? drop a knight?

Correct. That's one problem with the move, which is why in the Move List I suggested 38...Kh8 as an improvement.

Doesn't 38...Kf8? drop a knight? After 38...Kh8 39.Nf7+ Kg7 The discovered check doesn't amount to much.

Black made some crazy moves in there, one in particular which I believe lost the game: 33.Nc2? He should be thinking about White's Knight and Rook attack, not his own little plans. He can't get much out of it anyway, if he does execute his plans.

Thank you likeforests!  Very nice!  And in an environment where bluedevil knight, temposchlucker, and you are all already posting here, I cannot help but note that this is forcing me to re-engage here, and resusitate my password from June!  Himm?

It is such a nice pleasure to have a friend put ones ending on the web, and so skillfully executed and commentated!

Of course, as I have already said, I was clearly lost, but then again, it was a bullet game (0/4) AND had many, many latter places to go wrong and scalped a win and mate.  :)  Thank you.

Lastly, as I said here, I was writing a post that I was just finishing just as I recieved notice of below.  What happened?  I was writing it with you first and foremost in mind.  The biomorphogenic field of Rupert Sheldrake!
