Do you think that your rating is a true reflection of your abilites as a chess player?

Submitted by lilybetrice on Sat, 04/11/2009 at 5:02pm.

I keep losing to high ratered players and my rating is seriously low at present, but in the majority of cases I feel I give my "friendly foes" a run for their money.. Nobody kicks my butt in 5 moves... (Hinting for some ecouragement here guys) Why am I not improving? Do I talk too much?? Apologies for the expression of "self involvement... again : ^ )

You're below the 800 mark, which is very low for turn based chess. I think you should play people at your own level and when you start beating them move up a bit to about 900 players, then 1000 and so on.

I, personally, would be quite disappointed if you talked any less.  I've always enjoyed speaking with you.

And in reference to your low rating, perhaps you should play more people closer to your rating.  When you are learning war, you aren't put immediately into battle (unless you are in Soviet Russia. haha), but you're put up against your peers first.

Anyway, you honestly do give me a challenge sometimes.  And you have improved since I first played you--I promise. = ]
