when you try and dont improve

im speaking for those like me who we tried to improve our game and we dont have results.Ive been playing for like four months already and im a mediocre player but when i play  against better ratings that mine i do good games.

my points is what else do we have to try ? i have problems trying to see tactis and strategy because its very hard to me to follow it, you know they make a move and ruin your plan.

people tried to advise me and i listen and y apply  the method but  it seems like i cant get over the numbers of my rating, i  do excellent games and i loose stupid incredible games and that ruins my  focus on the game.

you guys outthere maybe a lot of players go through this  and after i will became i little better or i really suck?

im listening  !!! thank you guys

thank you guys for the words, when  i talked about my ratings its not like im going crazy for it, but i think the rating helps a lot to see our improvement or not? thats way i made emphasis on it, but sure i have a  lot of fun playing and i enjoyed a lot , thank you guys.

yes you must expect what your opponent may due. this is a great idea lucho, i have to work on it myself.

I would also say that perhaps(I have the same problem) you are not considering the opponent's plans enough.  Play both sides of the board with equal energy effort.  If they make a move that ruins your plan, as you say, then the problem is your plan probably wasn't the best.

I think the biggest thing is taking your games seriously.  Don't just play games, take a long look at your games afterwards and see where you can improve.  I spend at least as much time in post-mortem as I did in the game itself, and it makes a big difference.  I also think focusing on results is a fundamental mistake.  Focusing on the process, i.e. playing the best chess you can win, lose, or draw, is the only way to maximize your ability.

I think mauerblume's got it exactly right.  Your only problem is that you're paying too much attention to your rating.  Play for the sake of learning, having fun, making friends, and being creative, hopefully with a slice of brilliance here and there.  Don't push yourself!  It'll happen gradually with continued practice.
