Worlds Youngest GM Wins Dubai Open

Wesly So, a youngster at age 14 (Elo 2540) bested top GMs entered in the Dubai open held recently at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club.

So tied for 1st place with Chinese GM Chao, Georgian GM Merab Gagunashvili and Iranian GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami.  After the tiebreak - based on the average ratings of opponents was applied So emerged champion, followed by Gagunashvili, Maghami and Li.

So's win includes third  seed GM Levan Patsulala (Elo 2617) of Georgia, world junior chess champ GM ahmed Adly (Elo 2578) of Egypt, asian under 14 champ Saleh Salem of United Arab Emirates, Fide master Wu Xibin of China and GM Abjeet Gupta of India.  The Dubai Open lured 131 entries including 24 GMs and 5 WGMs from 25 countries.

Yes thank you charlie, i forgot to mention he's a filipino and the highest rated among pinoy GMs.

That's good news!  Incidentally, notwithstanding his age, Wesly So is the Philippines' highest ranked chesser.
