"Sacrify material for the initiative!"

I am a more positional player and most of the times I am not on search for dynamical possibilities.-

But in modern chess the dynamical play and the fight for initiative have become to a very important weapon!.

Here a position in the Catalan opening, where white offers first a pawn for quick development and sacrifies later an exchange for an unsecure black king in the center and a long-term initiative

@Dylan: No openings are particularly drawish at the level we play at. Unless both sides are familiar enough to go well into book (which rarely happens at our skill level), most openings offer plenty of opportunities to find fun and unbalanced positions.

Interesting, I might have to take another look at the Catalan, I always heard it was too drawish and boring.

I like doing that alot in my games; I'll often sac a bishop or knight just take away castling from the opponent, or especially, making a sacrifice that brings their queen way out and then pushing it around to get ultra-developed. :)
