Meniscus vs 2500+ strength player = OUCH!

Submitted by meniscus on Mon, 03/09/2009 at 8:29pm.

I just thought I'd show this one off for my opponent, who completely crushed me in two games recently. In this one I tried to play 'my game' by opting for a closed Sicilian. Against the usual black systems against the closed, white's king is not in a hurry to hide, white strives to get in g4 and f4, picking up some space. It's usually good when white can play c3, dislodging a black knight from c4 and fortifying the diagonal a1-h8 against Black's Bishop on g7. Here I got a little too creative, and although I like my (to my knowledge) original idea of f4 and g4 in the position, my opponent surprised me by maintaining intense tension, not allowing any freeing piece exchanges, and finally blowing open the center lines to my king. I guess I learned that you don't want to on a tactical blow for blow scrapdown with a 2500, at least not this one! I was careless, unafraid and kept counterattacking until it was clear that my king position ruined any chances of saving myself from massive material losses or checkmate. Also I'd rather score a cheapo than play an endgame a piece or two down. It's blunders from me (Ng5, f4, etc) but a crushing miniature from Rrobas. Enjoy.

Tim

meniscus, to add the subvariations you simply go back to a point in the game (within the board editor) and make a different move. The editor automatically adds it as a separate line and changes the color of that line. Give it a try and you'll see that it's pretty simple.

gshubert-- if Bh6, I thought he would just play Bxh6 Qxh6 and he traded off his bad bishop (blocked by e5). I can't stay on h6. He can always play Kh8 and Ng8 (a common idea)

There was a malfunction with the original post. Fixed it except for hunting down typos. If it was confusing "kid of force" is a Tim typo for "kind of force".

Does anyone know how to add the red side analysis and subvariations like the GMs do in their articles? I could use a few tips.
