Carlsen rules

Dortmund tournament just started today and Magnus Carlsen won his first game against Russia's top rated player Dmitry Jakovenko in the Ruy Lopez Berlin. One of the things I like about Magnus is that he's different from many GMs who just want to keep it safe and go for a draw, shake hands, take the money and go home. No, he won't take a draw offer and will be looking for his chances, just like in this game, he will just try to squeeze the win till the end. Hopefully he'll be a world champion someday.

"All of the players in the Sparkassen GM tournament seemed fazed by the temperature and all three games ended in more or less rapid draws."

So according to ChessBase, the heatwave in Germany was to blame for the lack of excitement today. Hmm (:

Bacrot - Jakovenko was another Berlin Wall where white deviated from Carlsen's victorious round 1 game with 11.Bf4. One wonders whether Jako has some improvement in store. I guess we don't know yet but I'd quite like to see Magnus beat Jako's Berlin too. :D

Hmmm, still love him but today he did something we don't want to see him do anymore- his game with Vladimir Drawnik lasted only 19 moves....

He beat the Berlin wall!!! I love that boy Laughing

And sure he'll be world champion. It's long since someone showed so much natural talent and profound positional understanding as he did at early age.
