Tournament Snails

My biggest beef thus far on Tournaments is the slowness of folks. One fellow waited to show up & make a move when he had just a couple of hours left on his 10 day limit. Another player started & then never showed up for the whole 10 days. Now I see another player played me for several moves & then stopped. Now I have to wait, & wait, & wait. Our tourney could have already been done, or nearly done if those players hadn't been allowed to slow everyone down.

Okay, thanks, I feel better.

This is indeed a problem.  I've suggested to 'management' at chess.com that one option would be to have a one-day time control.  Their was that this would create big problems on the weekend.  When you stop to think about the implications of that response it would seem that most people play at work and therefore need to have two-day time controls to handle the weekend! Interesting thought: how much of our play on this site is done during 'work-hours'??  Whatever.

So far I've only come across two solutions: a) patience (!!!), or b) the tournament director using the maximum average time/move parameter.  But I can't figure out what the appropriate setting would be.
    Any ideas?

Brilliant idea TadDude. Also though, people do have lives outside of chess.com and things could just pop-up in those persons lives, AND a rushed game is never as good as take your time game. I do get aggrevated though at slow people too but I also understand that they deserve a little leway as well. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON IN THAT PERSONS LIFE.

Yeah, I know what you mean about tourney snails... I'm in a game in a tournament, the guy logs on for one move. But then again I have to give him the benefit of a doubt in that he may be on for a significant amount of time when I'm just not. In other words, it could be like phone tag in a sense. You see, I play at night when most are asleep. I'm in four tournaments and a couple of them seem like they'll be going on for months. Even the smaller tournaments can drag on with snails on the coat-tails...

Good point. I just signed up for another tourney & took your advice.

Tournament directors can set the minimum number of completed games and the maximum average time/move.

Choose tournaments where these are used to weed out non-players. There is no guarantee but there is a better chance of finishing tournaments in a reasonable time.

Oh most importantly do not enter 1 move per 10 day tournaments.
