Mysterious moves

Submitted by oginschile on Fri, 02/22/2008 at 12:38am.

My boy lost a tooth the other day. It had been loose for a few days and it finally came out. He was so excited to finally get a dollar from the tooth fairy.

I came downstairs today to find him on the couch wrenching at the tooth next to the one that came out. He was pushing and pulling and twisting... it looked very painful. I asked him what he was doing, and he said he needed another dollar.

I should have seen that one coming. My son the racketeer.

Reminded me of those mysterious moves chess players make. The ones that make you think they just got hit with the stupid stick. But in the end, it's apparent they have seen much deeper into the position than you.

I remember the first time I played through this game... I stared at black's 28th move for the longest time... it just seemed like a throw away move. But someone finally explained it to me, and now it is clear as day. See if you can find it, and can you see why.
