Can a old man learn this game.

Well I was putting that mildly when I called this a game.  This is war and I am the loser in battle after battle.

I dread coming here because I get beat up all the time.  On a positive note I have won a couple lately and I really like that.  So it is my desire to study this some and find a way to raise my rating.

Learning what the squares are called and why a move has a designation like gxf3 and Rg1 means.  I don't have a clue that shows how green I am at this game.  There I go again "game" Ha.

Need to start somewhere I suppose.  So there it will be.

you have great instincts refine those with some study and most importantly keep playing. You are a fine sportsman and the wins will come take it from someone who won 27 games and lost 882 befor coming to this site. This site with all its goodies and great ppl have helped me by leaps and bounds

Maybe you could consider getting a couple of books with verbal explanations - check the 'winning' series by Yasser Seïrawan : he explains a lot of things in a very enlightening way Smile

Good luck !
