I was about 9 yrs old when I first became interested in learning how to play chess.Because I enjoyed watching my older brother (by 10 yrs) & his chess buddy who would often come over to our house to play against each other...One day I remember asking my brother if he would teach me how to play.He agreed...after telling me the name of each piece and how to properly move them..he then informed me that the easiest way for me to learn the rest game was to just sit & watch them play. But to also pay close attention to HOW they played the game against each other.Which I did, & he was right...I did learn alot by just watching them closely and asking a question when I did'nt understand something.

I learned chess from a senior player at the age of 21 years. But actually I'm learning it everyday from many players through many games. There's no limit to learn it.
my dad tought me. he never let me win. and he would fuss if i made a bad move. i was 11 years old. i did not like the game for a few years. at age 26 i played a guy in tunisia. he was really good and showed me how you could study chess. i played an electronic board at age 30 and this was the best way to begin cos no one could criticise. then my dad encouraged me to join chichester chess club, so i did. this is where i learnt so much. there was a guy there i did not get along particularly well with, but he pointed out all my mistakes and i learnt loads from him. i respected him for that and i even grew to like him. i played in club matches which was great fun. i was in that club for 2 years then i got married and decided to stay at home with my wife instead of swanning off to the club. find a player who can tell you not the moves to make and why.
