New Grade

Considering I only played around 7 games last season I was expecting my grading to drop rapidly (below 100). New grades are out and my new grade is 109 (compared to 112) from last season.

I know I have to play more games this season if I want to improve my grade. With Cabot being promoted to division 2 it means the games will be harder but my chess should get better from playing better players, although my grade might not. However, I must remember it is only a number and an estimate of my ability as grades are not 100% accurate of the strength of players.

Yeah - I know what you mean. I am hoping that playing in division 2 next season will boost my grade as I will be playing better players. I only played 8 games the whole of last season which didn't help. When you play less games you grade tends to go down!

Any improvement is good...I went up from 121 to 132 for this coming season. Played some awful games towards the end of last season which cost me at least a 140 grrr. Happy I improved a bit though.

That's the attitude Phil! Grades are only a number, and on a good day, you can play 20-30 points higher than your grade. Admittedly on a bad day, you can play 20-30 lower. For me playing board 1 in division 3, I should get some good results, but playing higher rated players will improve both of us through the next season, regardless of the grade going up, down or nowhere. Good luck next season!
