Hereford Congress: Day 1

First day of my first OTB tourney was a moderate success! With 1 win and 1 loss, I am on 1/2 (basically average). Here are the games for you to enjoy and tell me where I went wrong!

I play c4 c6! Common ideas in the English include a kingside fianchetto, and this move prevents the Bishop having too much influence. Also it may transpose to the Slav defence, which is fine for Black. Having said that, I admire the sentiment of f5, although e5 should probably have been played first ;)

Note at the end should read "fine for both sides".

1. c4 f5?? A standard idea is just 1. c4 e5 2. Nc3 Nf6. Black just fianchettos his K bishop and castles K-side, while playing Nc6 and d5 at some stage. Then you get to the middle game relatively trouble free.
