Sicilian Pin White Crush

Submitted by sam_musil on Mon, 03/09/2009 at 10:27pm.

Since I joined Chess.com, I have completed 8 games against the Sicilian Pin Variation playing the white pieces.  I have won 7 of the 8 games with one draw versus Marjan Lacic, who plays under the handle "lac."  Marjan is a very strong master with a chess.com rating of 2652 today.  I am still disappointed in allowing Marjan the draw since he played the Exchange Sac Extension to the Koch Variation.  This gives white an early win of the exchange and is the ONLY DRAW that I have allowed with this variation in 35 years!   I am trying to interest players in trying the Pin as a playable variation, so Marjan's victory works to aid that cause!

Many of these 8 completed games were in my two thematic tournaments in which I am playing 20 games with white: Sicilian Pin and Sicilian Pin Koch tournaments.  This is one of my early wins in the Sicilian Pin tourney against a friend from Japan who always plays brand new lines against me to get me out of Chessbase.  He does it again here with a piece sac at move 6 that wins the exchange by force!  I feel that the game definitely explores new theoretical ground  with a beautiful white win by force.  Enjoy!

Gala,

I do not want you to completely give up on the Pin.  I know that you have switched to the Kan.  I also play the Kan , but only as my back-up defense in large tourneys like the Chicago Open.  I only play it OTB if someone busts my main-line Pin in an early round when I do not have access to my databases or engines to search out a TN for a later round.  After the tourney, I will spend weeks analyzing my draws and losses looking for TN's for Chess.com and later OTB tourneys!

Kasparov claimed that he had over 350 TN's in his notes when he retired.  I have one for every one of my losses in serious games that I have ever played!

Of course, I am playing the Kan at chess.com against certain strong opponents for the surprise factor!

Sincerely,  Sam

This does look indeed interesting.  I am going to do a little research on this line.  I have a friend who has played some of the black side of this line and I always in up getting smashed because I am trying to hold the queenside together.

If you don't mind I will be looking at your other examples of this line and possibly making it them the subject of this weeks' training.

Thanks for posting. Keep 'em coming!
