Patzer's Handbook #1

Submitted by shuttlechess92 on Thu, 08/13/2009 at 5:27pm.

A free series aimed at improving the average player.

As this is the first issue, I will start with minor basics.

2 types of players

1. Positional - prefers closed positions, slowly improving one's position with each move.

2. Active - prefers open games, aiming to gain a tactical advantage to convert into a crushing attack.

blunder check

Moral of blunder check: always pay extra caution to pins - removing a defender could cost a whole piece.

And now I have included one of my personal games. This week's theme: positional chess.

Stay tuned for next week's issue!
