Why one should fight until the very end.

This is a game I played online recently.  I was hurting pretty badly.  I had made some poor decisions, and found myself in, oddly enough, a poor position.  I decided to make an all-out attack on the black king.  At some point I was playing for the draw by perpetual check.  When it became clear that it wasn't going to happen, I threw more material away.   Ultimately, I ended up with a win out of a game I thought to be hopeless.

The moral of the story is this:  You are not the only player to make mistakes.  As hard as you may try to throw away a game, sometimes your opponent will try harder!  You don't improve your endgame skills by resigning all the time.  When your position is bad and a quiet defensive plan just prolongs your demise, go crazy!  Attack!  What's the worst that can happen?  You were going to lose anyway.

My comment comes a bit late but this is very true. Even more in games like 2x1h or under. Once you are trailing, you've always have to look for your strong points and play  both sneaky and bulky.

That was insane. Fun to watch, though.

haha nicely done! Good advice too about nothing to lose...

I always thought resigning too early is pretty foolish, since as you said learning from your mistakes and improving is the most important thing ultimately, so even if you lose, at least you take some valuable experience out of it for next time.

Nice comeback! You know I think I read somewhere that the winner of a chess game is the player who makes the next to last mistake! Enjoy the win, you deserved it.

I must admit that I did enjoy running the once castled black king around the board(I was particularly happy with 39.e4+, allowing me to capture the rook and retain the attack).  I did not enjoy the poor quality of play that I exhibited or the great many mistakes my opponent had to make for this to be possible.  It was a five minute game, so at least we can make excuses.

I suspect you enjoyed this game very much.  22. Nxe6+ definitely seems to have made it an exciting game.
