Well I just spent the last weekend participating in a national club tournament. It took place on the campus of the University of the Westeren Cape, nestled in the northern suburbs of Cape Town. This was my first experience of a chess tournament and it was quite overwhelming. Besides the usual clock punching I now had to notate as well! Our team was also on occassion playing against some of the top teams in the country. I was reserve but played a few games on board 4 for which I was thankful. Our no 1 had a game against a former national champion!! Although at times very intimidating the experience was fantastic. Its quite something to see 2 top players down to the last 5 minutes of the clock going hammer and tongs at each other. My record wasnt so great - 2 losses (1 I should have drawn) and 1 draw that I should have won. The time control was 60 minutes a side which is quite a bit faster to the 3 days a move I am used to!!!;))
