Yeah, whatever...

What is it with the lack of sportsmanship in Live Chess? It seems to run more rampant in Quick games. I've had a lot of games end with opponents saying, "fuck that," or, "whatever." I think the Quick games cause higher heart rates and blood pressure, and when it all finally comes to the victory or demise, the intense and sudden ending causes a surge of emotion.

The behavior isn't limited to Quick games, of course, as Blitz and Long have brought out some of the worst in people. I just played a Long game where I offered up the usual "gg" after checkmate and my opponent said, "if you say so. maybe it was good on your end." Whenever I get this response, I sometimes can't help but rub the victory in his or her face by saying something snarky or even demeaning. Of course, just as there are sore losers, there are poor winners, too. The bad losers can bring out the bad winner in me.

I've had more civilized chess games and better sportsmanship in jail.

People here are somewhat more civil than Yahoo! chess. You also have the option of turning of the chat on live chess here. The overall chess experience on this site is far better than any other site. It seems that people of certain ages are major culprits; mainly 18-30 from what I can tell. I'd hate to say this because it sounds racist, but in my experience, the worst and most frequent shit-talkers are the Filipino players. On live chess, if I see that Filipino flag, almost without fail they will say some shit. Like I said, it's just been my personal experience but that's how they are.

I know a lot of them are just cocky. I'm half Filipino.

I agree with both of you. A thing that happened to me was that if I was taking more than 10 seconds to make a move, my opponent would ping me down the lines of "u there" or "can u move", making me just wanting to stop playing. Yahoo Chess is possibly the most ghetto of all chess places. I used to go there because there were so many people playing.

It's not worth playing if your opponent is sub-human in the way he interacts. It's just not fun. I just joined chess.com, are people here often like that?

The few times I play live chess online I turn off chat messages when I can. Or I just go to more serious services like FICS.

I don't play live chess anymore for two reason's one because people give you shit. And the other reason is disconnections. Last time I was beating someone good I was ahead in material and position and then the system shut me off and I was disconnected. My soul was taken from me.
