I ended up wasting about 15 or 30 seconds when he moved the queen there, because I was originally planning to just block with h3... but noticed just in time that checkmate was threatened in two ways. Then I had to rethnk everything...

well, its harder to tell since the game ends at 15 moves, i take it this is where someone times out?
anyways the only thing you could have done bettr was maybe not move the knight to g3, but instead maybe pushed the pawn to prevent the queen getting that close to your king.
although i see that you were threatening checkmate with the rook on 8th row but still.
i don't think that anything was done terribly wrong
