6. Toga 2 vs. Spike 1.2

Another tie-breaker appeared in this match up. Spike 1.0's older brother proved more than a match for the undefeated Toga 2 and both games were drawn after complex positions. A blitz tie-break was needed to separate the pair and it followed the same opening as game 2, but who would come out on top?

Well, you can't really "observe" these games, because I'm running them on my own computer. But, for the sake of fairness, I re-ran two 50 game matches becakuse my comments were based on older version of Toga 2 and Glaurung.

The time control was short, 5 minutes per side, even though xboard kept going even after 5 minutes, so the games were longer. Here are the results of an overnight test:

    Glaurung vs Spike 1.2 Turin: 24 / 15 / 11 (W / L / D)

    Toga II vs Spike 1.2 Turin: 19 / 14 / 17 (W / L / D)

    Version info:

    Glaurung: 2.2-1

    Toga II: 1.4.1.1SE1-1

Now, as for your "linux" comment (on the other page), I don't see how that is relevant. These engines are the same (same source code), and the choice of OS doesn't matter.

I'm currently running Glaurung vs. Toga II.

I look forward to watching and observing your 50/100 game tournament.

I didn't read your intro page until now. So you are indeed playing 2 or 3 games only. Timewise good, but statistically meaningless approach.

Sorry, am I reading this correctly? You are running a 3 game tournament? Have you tried running 50 or 100 games? In my tests Spike 1.2 beats Toga II.
