No happy people is happy because they haven't had any suffering. They're happy in spite of the suffering they've had, or they're still having. I think the key is worrying about others, instead of ourselves.

Free from pain? No. But happy all the same.

Imho, if bad negative things never happened, there would be no personal progress of the person who's suffering those bad things. But I know that's quite hard to see when those things are happening to you...

And there are bad negative things that are far too bad and negative for me to consider them acceptable at all (most of them mainly related to human cruelty).

There is not much we can do about them, except living our lives in a manner that, in the end, noone can say we've harmed them.
