atomic chess

Has anyone played atomic Chess?

These are the rules:

play in pairs 2x2  on 2 boards with each team having black and white pieces. Both boards are using clocks and the game starts at the same time as a piece is taken it is passed to your team mate to use as he wishes, either as a piece to be placed anywhere on his board now or saved for a later move.

Yes! I used to play this all the time at college! It is totally the best way to play chess :) We called it doubles chess, not atomic.

Basic rules were: If a piece is taken you hand it to your partner. On their next move they can place the piece anywhere except: They cannot put the opponents king in check. They cannot put a pawn on the 7th row. Queening would be done by choosing any piece from your opponents partner.

I think "give me anything" was probably the most heard cry, to stave off checkmate as your clock was running down.

Yes, I used to play atomic chess in high school... about a zillion years ago.  Maybe two zill.  "Gimme a knight! Gimme a knight!"  And you'd smash it onto the board Boom! and fork your opponent's royalty.  It was great fun.
