Now writing down the moves in a sanctioned USCF or FIDE tournament is illegal (forbidden to use notes).  Sometimes I want to prevent playing the obvious move because my opponent also knows it is the obvious move.  Usually to win or surprise your opponet, you want to make the least obvious move (a sac perhaps).
