Bobby Fischer

Submitted by Chessman22 on Tue, 09/18/2007 at 6:51pm.

I was thinking about what I read in a chess magazine's article about Bobby Fischer. I remember seeing a preview of a movie back in the 90's about him and I was wondering "Who? Who's Bobby Fischer?".  I heard a little about him in subsequent years and I was still wondering "Who is Bobby Fischer?". Then I forgot about him.  Now that I'm starting to get into chess(I've been playing for less than year's worth of time), I found myself wondering about him again. So, I read about him at the library(where the aforementioned magazine is) this month and I was quite surprised about his attitude to the US and how he's against Jews. After the US took a blow, he said that something to the effect of "SERVES YOU RIGHT!!!" and  "Blacks will go back to Africa and whites back to Europe!". I'm thinkin' "What the heck? What happened to him?" Some people think Mr. Fischer's previous and continual behavior(this negative talk has been going on for some time) "burst the chess bubble that he generated" bck in the 70's. But my question is, why is it that back in the disco era(the 70's for those who don't know what I mean by "disco era". I speak as an American) when the White House(Kissinger, to be specific) told him that he was playing for America against the Soviets, "his face took on a combative look and he went to play chess like he was going on a mission"? Then, later on, he turns against the US? Strange.

Whatever the circumstances for this change in behavior, he needs to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Plain and simple. Look at the examples Jesus set forth as He walked here on Earth. We could all use His love. And we can follow Him.

This website does have a forum for off-topic discussions, so you can discuss "religion". Just don't trash other people's faith. I've been following him for most of my life, and He's never let me down. Bobby Fischer has not changed the world and he does not motivate people to help their fellow man and treat others the way they want to be treated. He has not set forth the kind of example you would want everyone to follow. He is just a man with faults the rest of us have. If you look at Jesus' examples(I'm talking about the Jesus of The Bible), it'd be great if everyone would follow him. He doesn't inspire his followers to violence; to the contrary, He instructs them to be kind to others. Of course, defend yourself if you have to, but only as a last resort.

Regardless of this "secularism is the way to go" ideology, the simple fact is, people's faith does affect them and it will influence their decisions in life. People are going to serve something eventually. I do not claim to" have a monopoly on the truth". I follow Someone who is The Way, The Truth, and The Life. I've chosen to serve Jesus Christ and YHWH(the God of the Jews and Christians). If you read my profile, you'll be able to see what I'm about.

every men has his own reasons..  (I'm not saying he's right..)

but why does he NEEDS to accept jesus. I don't think he's the kind of guy who follows like a sheep. I think that if there is one guy who thinks for himself it's Bobby Fisher..  So for me that makes him more an example then jesus(wether I don't share his thoughts..) I think this world needs more people to think for themselves instead of sheeps..

(Why do religious people always claim a sort of monopoly on the truth???  I think thats dangerous..)

by the way sorry for discussing religion on this site ,but you lighted the fire!   :)

(it should bo chess to discus) ,
