Boden's Mate

Submitted by KillaBeez on Sat, 09/19/2009 at 4:35pm.

Today, I was able to play in the Kansas Grade Championships.  It was the first scholastic tournament of the season.  I came into the tournament worrying only about making things crazy and dynamic.  I finished off my top two opponents (both rated 1500) in 14 and 15 moves.  Here is one of those games.  It features a Boden's mate.

No, 0-0-0 was NOT illegal. It did not pass the KING'S path, only the ROOK'S path. That is allowed.

Anyway, nice gameCool

in answer to 0-0-0 illegal?? the player must control the kings interveening square not the rooks.

One question, is in it: 13.... O-O-O is illegal because of the Bishop on F4 hitting B8, one of the casttelings squares???

It's easy to see these in tactics books, but hard to find them over the board. Good show!

Well done my friend!

What a brilliant play that was!His castling may was a blunder but it needs skill to spot the mate!

Your comments were very interesting and i am impressed with your knowledge.

It is extremely impressive what a 15 year old guy can do!

many thanks!

nice mate. A friend of mine got mated like that recently as his opponent gave up the queen to mate with two bishops!

See the Peruvian Immortal game, where the checkmate took far longer than your's. Still, the blunder also was castling queenside. In your game Black may have tried 11...Qb6 allowing safe queenside castling. Actually, White could've played more sharply with 12.g5! Nh5 13.0-0 Qe7 14.b4 threatening Ba3.

I've seen mating attacks exactly like that in books. the useful feature was black's stalemated king.
