It was to be wished that read fresh chess news and for this reason gleaned in the French chess journal in „Le Palaméde” of the 1846 volume. This journal was published in Paris in monthly. The journal earlier was edited by La Bourdonnais but he died in December of 1840 year. Already finished the Paris – Pesth corresponding chess competition (0-2) and the February journal reports the finishing part of second game. The competition began in November 1842. In the team of Café Wurm in Pesth were playing Szén, Löwenthal and Grimm. In the team of Café de la Régence there were Saint Amant (the editor of Le Palaméde at tis time), Calvi Laroche and Devinck. Deschapelles was the president but he drew back quickly. The second game was Petroff Defense by the French players. Deschapelles suggested after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 the 3… f5 move. But the most player suggested 3… Nf6 and this was the answer. In this way were annotated of the ending moves in the Palaméde:
49. PTR2. 49.F-D4. 50.PCR1. 50.P prend P. 51.P prend P. 51.F-CR. 52.PCR1. black resigns. It seems today: 49.h3-h4 Bf7-d5 50.g4-g5 h6xg5 51.h4xg5 Fd5-g8 52.g5-g6. 1-0.
In the February number is visible the 22nd game of the La Bourdonnais – MacDonnel match, one from the 84 with 12 years after the match. The journal reports from America too. The April number reports a game from New Orleans which was played by Monsieur Rousseau and his adversaries Monsieur Morphy and Monsieur dr. Ford.
Monsieur Morphy is just possible that he was Ernest Morphy the uncle of Paul Morphy who was a correspondent at this journal. At this time in 1846 Paul wasn’t 9 years old . He learnt play chess in his 10th year. But who was Monsieur Rousseau? Eugene Rousseau had born in France and moved to New Orleans. He was a well-known chessplayer in New Orleans and played a lot with Paul Morphy too. Sorry, only one game is knowed. In period 1849-51 they played more as 50 games and nine tenth part of the games won Paul Morphy. Eugene Rousseau played a match with Charles Henry Stanley who lived in New York. We could find the 14 games of this match in the 1846 volume of Palaméde. Stanley had born in London in 1819. In 1841 he defeated Staunton. Later moved to America here defeated Rousseau and Schulten too. After his victory against Rousseau he was esteemed as the champion of States to 1857 when Morphy won the Championship. By the February number the Stanley – Rousseau match began in 1 December 1845 and was ended four games to 27 December. Before the seventh game Stanley was in advantage (3,5-2,5). In the Palaméde we could find every games but perhaps the seventh is the most interesting because of the score of match. This game found in the March number of journal. Let’s see the game which had a diagram in the journal. The diagram displays the position after 13rd move of white. Finally Stanley won +8-3=3.

In the April number of Palaméde found a study with move compulsion. Again demonstrate the starting position from the Palaméde with representation of chess pieces of this age.
In the first instance black falls into move compulsion immediately and forced change his c4-pawn and defeats the game. In the second instance white didn’t force the move compulsion and by this line white couldn’t win. Both demonstration is from the Palaméde.

Now in interval of 163 years found two pearls for those faithful readers who visited my blog in 2009 many times. I wish for every one merry Christmas and happy New Year too!
