Chessimo Training

Submitted by ericmittens on Tue, 10/27/2009 at 6:35am.

I've hit a bit of a rut in my chess progress, sitting around the same level for some time now. To remedy this I've decided to shake up my training schedule and begin doing modules from the Chessimo software religiously, just like my daily CTS training. I'm going to work on both the endgame and strategy module. Hopefully this will be a more efficient way to assimilate patterns and will kick me out of this funk I'm in.

So, as of now my daily training includes:

100 problems on CTS

Chessimo endgame and strategy modules

Go through at least 3 master games, currently I'm working through "Understanding the King's Indian" by Golubev.

I'm also working my way through Silman's Reassess Your Chess workbook but it's slow going as I'm writing all my answers down in a notebook to be reviewed later per Silman's suggestion.

Oh its great, I've noticed a large improvement in my OTB blitz play since I've started using it daily. Every week my club has a blitz tournament and lately I've been beating up on all the 2000-2100 guys there without too much trouble. There's a slow play tournament at the end of the month so I can test my slow-play improvement.

Each day I try to do 1 module from the endgame section and one from the strategy section.

It seems you have a pretty hard working schedule going on there, it will surely return good results in the end. Hard work always wins in the end Smile.

I'm not a fan of CTS though, I would suggest chesstempo.com instead, especially the standard training. It made a huge effect on my accuracy during games.

Yea, I've been between 1620-1650 forever on CTS, with 76.1% accuracy. At nearly 55000 problems done I'm starting to see diminishing returns. Hopefully the different sorts of problems offered by Chessimo will inspire my brain.

I'm CTS as well: Palindrome and Meniscus in the US

Meniscus is 1800 something (#36) in the US, but inactive because i only play it when I'm on fire.

I work Palindrome mostly, which I've gotten close to 25,000 problems. I usually try to do as near to 500 at a time, but do not try to meet the time limit unless i know the answer already. the goal is to raise the total  percentage of success up by .1% as often as possible, but since I did the first 15000 or so without this goal, it's tough. Tht and CTS doesnt give me many problems outside of the 1500-1800 rating range.

I also have Chessimo and find it very useful for drilling patterns.

However, I think Peshk@ with the Beginners and Intermediate Chess Tactics modules (CT-ART is also available!) is even better as far as tactics are concerned.

It appears as if all the Convekta software will eventually be available under Peshk@, even the World Champions CDs. Plus a new, very interesting course entitled "Opening Instructor".
