ECF chess gradings are a joke

Went to my local club night on wednesday where whoa and behold they had the latest gradings from results made last season. Well to say i was disapointed would be an understatement. I'd gone up from a 86 to a measly 87, despite having one of the beat seasons in years, beating a 129 and drawing a 122. Out of about the 40 odd games i played i won at least 25 of them and maybe lost between 5-10. To convert to ELO multiply by 8 and add 600. i.e My 86 is 1288 which is now 87 ( 1296 ). The point i'm trying to make is, just what do you have to do to improve this, i was expecting to be well over a 100. I also noticed on the ECF website that they only included 30 games played, when i played more than this. The games i lost by the way were by players of a similar or higher grade. So because of this it looks like i'm stuck in the C team again despite my improved performances.

Thanks sonofpearl, i'll have a nose if i can find out all the score sheets from last season. They may not have counted my two big results as they were for the A team. I've also been playing mostly for the B n C teams as well, which may cause some confusion. This is legal in the Shropshire leage though because 1. my gradings below 90 and 2. The A,B and C teams are all in different divisions. My name doesn't help either, as us Jones's are quite common, as you would know sonofpearl coming from Wales.

Why did they only include 30 games and leave out the rest?  Were they submitted by your club for rating? (I'm not sure if that happens or how it works)  Did they qualify to be included as rated games?  Were they played in events which are not counted towards rating points for some reason?

Try working out your grade yourself using the calculation given on the ECF website.  If it comes out different, then you could query it with them.  They may have made a mistake in calculation.

That certainly sounds pretty ridiculous to me. I know i would be mad too if my rating didn't really increase after I played very well (I don't have any official rating though). Maybe there is someone you can contact to see if an error was made.

ECF means English chess federation by the way.
