This experiement was a blast! I learned an awful lot about my chess game in this series. What did I learn? Well, the opening is the least of my worries, as I have some serious basic holes in my chess game. I need to go back and brush up on my tactics and slow the heck down when making moves. I am missing simple hanging pieces and basic tactics. If this is considered 1800 (chess.com) chess then it should take just a little extra effort to get back into the 1900 club. On the USCF front I am a 1360 player, but have not played a whole lot. I took first in my last outing in a U1400 event. But with that said, if I can tighten up, I should be able to get into the 1400 club my next USCF event.
Regarding the English, I've learned that I'm naturally playing like a 1. d4 player and still have not yet captured the essence of the English Opening. With that said, I'm at a cross roads, try again with the English, or give 1. d4 a try. Before I answer that question, I will spend some time strengthening my other weaknesses that the opening has nothing to do with. Thanks for all the comments from everyone, I really apperciate all your help!!!
EDIT:
I have decided to continue with the English. I picked up the book Starting out English by McDonald. I'm also reading the book Chess Praxis by Nimzovich and forcing myself to look for checks, and hanging pieces on every move. Just took 2nd in a 5 minute live chess tourney, so my vision is getting better. With all that said, I'll be back with a second round of English games in a month or so, only this time they will be English games, not transpositions into d4 style openings.
