First league win of the season!

I was playing on the bottom board of the Bristol university A team for our second league match (I lost my first game, but never mind about that), and I thought I would share my rather nice win as white. My opponent thought he could grab a pawn quite early on, but unwittingly left himself open to a strong attack. See for yourself if you think black can hold the position.

So, black fell for a little trap which left him in a difficult situation, and then it wasn't too difficult to apply lots of pressure, followed by a pleasant finish!
All in all, exciting games were had on all boards, (6 in total) with lots of decisive games, but in the end, our team lost 3.5 to 2.5. dissapointing, but hey, it was good fun all the same. And on a side note, the university also has a B team that played on the same night. They also lost. Go Bristol!
Hope you enjoyed the game, and leave comments if you wish. Cheers.

One other thing, 10.Bc4 is a mistake, and black should just play Bg4 straight away, which is a genuine threat to the pawn, and basically forces the bishop back to e2.

Very nicely played. You should bring along the game on Sunday to help us coach the new players.

Fair enough. It prevents Rf1+, which would win the queen I guess.

Turns out Fritz gives the bizarre 23. Rd1! as by far the best move.

That seems alright. Then I need to find the right moment to push the e pawn.

    21. ... Rf7 22. Rxd4 Qc7 23. Qd2 looks good for white, I think.

I think Qc7  is the only move, and then it's a question of how to keep the pressure. I think e5 looks good.

    After 21. ... Rf7 what will black do after 22. Rxd4?

Anyway, what do you think of 21...Rf7? It looks balanced, but I reckon I still have an advantage. It seems as though I can keep black under pressure and slowly advance the 'e' pawn or something.

Don't listen to him.  It was awesome.

Well, it's only a 2 move combo, and I was looking for tactics akin to it. With a king position like black's, anyone would.

That was a fantastic game to watch. (I think I was watching on and off but after 21. Rxa2?? I didn't move.  I think you've been unduly modest with your lack of "!"s.  At the very least 23. Rd8 should be !!.

    Well done!
