Gratuity for the Greeters

Just a thought on the 'volunteer' Greeter situation. It's been my experience that you have to wade through a lot of games which are <3 moves and abandoned before you actually find a 'player'. Kind of takes the fun out of it. How about some kind of perk, (subtle hint alert: like a membership upgrade!) for completing a certain numbers of Greeter games? Or, perhaps track how many of a Greeter's newbies turn into paying members and reward based on that?

    Cheffy-

I read most of that string. It appears the main concern is 'Spamming' the site for points. There must be a way around that problem.

I think we need to abort the mission, someone's already been there done that.

    Enjoy your meeting :)

I agree, It should be a positive discussion, however I think with a slightly provocative heading we will get more interest which will promote more discussion, thus leading to possibly having Chess.com really look at it.

I want to try to make the forum "take off"....otherwise it will just be another dead topic, if I go fishing I like to use a big lure :)

Please do, but ask the question as a lawyer would. We want the discussion to be positive, and move int he direction of utilizing the points for something useful or interesting, not just 'What good are they'. Agreed?

Do you want the honors or should I do it ?

Keep in mind whomever posts it will earn more of the coveted Member points...it's your call.

We should post a question to the main forum "what good are member points?".

It would be interesting to see the responses, what do you think Phil ?

Wait 'til I get my bottle of points-enhancer supplements from Indonesia....

Then you'll see some real points....

What, you've got more points than me?!  Doh!

Now I'm suffering from low self esteem and points-envy.

    Thanks alot....

Now that is a good point : why do we have all these "member points" ??

    What good are they ?

Is it just bragging rights ? "I have more member points than you do, na na na na boo boo !".....or is there an actual practical use for them ??

    Hi J,

I think you're selling short, but maybe V-days are your chocolate.

I think the entire site would benefit from a little virtual capitalism. Everyone is tracked with member points, but what good are they? What if you could trade member points for things that you want? Like V-days, or game analysis, or training? You put something in, you get something back.

i am a greeter. i think maybe a membership upgrade is a bit much... how about more vacation time. like a day a full played greet game. it wouldn't cost chess.com any thing that way and there would be a reward.

Your right Philip, sorry , I don't know what the heck I was thinking....maybe if I would have had my own greeter to coddle me into chess.com I wouldn't be making such ridiculous comments in your forum :P

Work with us here. Greeting is vital; without it, the entire site might collapse.....

I stopped being a greeter mainly because most people would make one or two moves and then quit. Seemed like a waste of time to me, also I didn't really see any point in it whatsoever.

Why can't new people just play some regular games ??

That's what I did when I was new. It's not like this site is so difficult to navigate that you need to be hand held for your first few games...it's not brain surgery....click on "start a game" and then move the pieces...if people can't wrap their heads around that concept I can't imagine how they can even play chess...or figure out how to get onto the internet in the first place :P
