Happy to Draw

Submitted by RC_Woods on Tue, 10/20/2009 at 3:14pm.

This is my last club game, which I was happy to draw. After an overly bold knight manoeuvre it pretty much fell apart, but I survived the middle game and reached an ending that would have been drawn with best play. I missed that line and found myself in a pawn endgame that I assumed should be lost. My opponent offered a draw since he doesn't like pawn endings, which I happily took.

The game is below!

lol, I see your point there.

The thing is he wasn't immediately sure it was won due to my queenside pawn majority (which could create a passed pawn).

He also said he hasn't got the patience to make the best moves in long endgames, which caused him to lose a decent number of pawn endgames. When we blitzed it out after the draw was accepted I did get the passed pawn and probably a won game. So score-wise it might have been a good decision for him.

Of course none of that changes the fact that with best play black is just lost.

Interesting game full of action, thanks for sharing.

And I'm shocked by white's draw offer. I think it kind of makes the whole idea of playing a middlegame obsolete if you're just not going to play a won endgame.
