How many games can you play at once?

How many games can you play at once and still be effective with your play?  Even with a slower time control, I feel pressure to play as quickly as possible, and if I am playing many games I am just not as effective as with only a few games and end up losing games I shouldn't because I make mistakes or miss opportunities.  I suppose it is all part of the game!

I now think that somewhere around 10 is the right number.  I am down to 3 games now and it seem that I don't have that much to do when I sign on.

I agree with colt about the consideration for the other players as well.  If you are playing so many games, it takes too long to move, also, you can't be giving your best to each game!

One of my opponents is currently playing 638 games

This affects me because when he comes on line to play, he doesn't always gets time to make his move in our game !!!!!!!

How he can play so many and still maintain his concentration is beyond me.

I play about 10, max sometimes about 25

Yep, 10-15 is about right to play well i reckon. I did ok with this number but then my addiction to theme tournaments got the better of me and suddenly i ended up with 50+ games and my playing quality fell apart! Im down to high 20s now and still play less quality than before. I play here a lot though so like to have games to play when im logged in.. so its a balance between quality of play vs quantity and i think im choosing more to the quantity and accepting my quality goes down. Bottom line is to have fun fer me, so i dont mind my rating dropping really. More games at once does mean normally less time per move which means less quality, but hey, more games also means more fun :P
