Winning outright doesn't happen to me very often in my club, because there are 2-3 players there that are significantly stronger than I am; Edgar (the strongest player in our club who wins almost everything), Alan and Mladen.  There are also a couple of non-regulars who are stronger, but they didn't show this night...

On Friday the 25th February, 2011, I won the blitz tournament, so I am bragging!!  lol

I won 6 out of 7 games.  Second place was shared by many, all on 5 points.  I only lost to Edgar, who lost two games, one to Alan and one to George (an upset indeed!), whom I both beat on the night!

Yay me!!

Mind you, it was a 'nothing' event -- it wasn't the blitz championship or anything, just a friendly tournament, but still... I won!!

Sorry for bragging, but meh!  Sometimes I need to :-Þ

Play lots of blitz if you want to be able to play faster.  At some point you end up playing more instinctively than calculating everything, which is impossible.

Well thanks I will try Borg.. however the problem is that Im thinking slowly and for point 2: My opponents almost never use move than 5 seconds :( But I will give it a shot :)

Tips for not losing on time?

    1.  Play faster!  There is no real time to analyse much in blitz.

    2.  Use your opponents thinking time!  When it is your opponent's move, don't wait, analyse and plan.  Look for tactics.

    3.  Don't forget to have fun!

Nice.. I think that I would never win such tournament even against 10 times weaker players than me (if there are such) because I always lose on time :( mostly when I have a rook or another piece more, my time runs out:( any tips? If I use less time, then I lose by checkmate :(

G'day.  Yes, and I remember you.  You were two games away from getting an ACF rating!  You are still in our database!

Do you play at Modbury?  I went there a few times and recognise the names.

Tips on how to win blitz?  Probably the best advice is practice!  Get used to the time control and on the night, take a deep breath and try not to worry.  I remember taking a "relax" breath and just forgetting about trying to win... just play.  Something I should do more often.  I think sometimes, I, and probably some more people too, try too hard to win instead of just playing the game as it should be played -- for fun and enjoyment!

Oh, and play weird openings, that often helps too... take your opponent out of their book!

We don't have "bullet" at our club.  Thankfully.  Too much luck/intuition for our liking!

I miss tournaments that our club used to have.  Now that we have an actual building, blitz tournaments require an entry fee.
