Is anything sacred?

We frequently see or hear the phrase 'Is nothing sacred?' when we see something we feel reverence for commercialized or somehow degraded in our eyes.  But that brought to mind the question 'Is anything inherently sacred in and of itself, such as a person, place, thing, act, or feeling, or is sacredness simply a quality we place on something due to feelings of reverence towards it?'  But then that brought up the followup question does anything have inherent qualities or is everything only imbued with qualities we assign to it?  Obviously what is sacred to one person could be profane to another...  What say ye my fellow wood pushers?

"Sacredness", as I see it, is closely tied to "respect" of someone else's views. The ability to accept others' beliefs makes us refrain from making disparaging comments about issues which are "sacred" to others. In effect, we are talking about what would be called "gentlemanly conduct" some decades ago.

I agree that "nothing is sacred" nowadays, because a lot of people have lost tolerance toward others. One consequence is that people are afraid to voice their views for fear of being ridiculed.
