Kasparov

Did you know Gary Kasparov is in prison in Russia?

Yes, he is.

In an article in Foreign Policy magazine Nov-Dec He made it very clear that he is an activist for democracy and truth.  When asked by a prison guard how he came to be in jail in spite of all his honor and glory in the chess world, Garri replied "In Russia you go to prison for two reasons--either murder or telling the truth."

Kasparov has been imprisoned on at least one other occasion [2007] but that was only for 5 days. The Kremlin know the consequences of attempting to imprison him for a long term stay - the media response  would be overwhelming.

Are you sure about this? When I search "garry kasparov prison" in google, I simply get news reports about him being released from jail in 2007.

Yes it is true.

A small blurb on page 29 bottom  tells some of this story.

If anyone out there knows more of this matter I am sure many chess folks would be very interested to hear.  That's Foreign Policy magazine Nov Dec 2008.

If this is true, then we have to organise a worldwide protest.
