I photocopied the first ten exercises from Chess Tactics for Champions, by Susan Polgar. There was some great discussion! They even asked if it were "homework," and I replied, "Only if you want it to be." They didn't mind!
The next week they had all their responses down! I was amazed, and encouraged! They really want to improve their tactics.
I photocopied chess pieces and a chess board pattern onto overhead transparencies. I have only used it once so far. It's a bit awkward, because a slight breeze coupled with the overhead projector's fan cause the tiny pieces to scatter. I'm thinking of purchasing a demo board, but "cha-ching!"
