Lacrimosa-Cardona

(Originally posted on my blog at http://azchesscoach.wordpress.com/)

The other night at the Emporium, Coach Liulia Cardona was waiting for her private lesson student to show when I offer her a game while she waited. But before we begin, let me state that in the past, Liulia has beaten me so bad, it was if I knew nothing about chess. She is a formidable master of the game and has my complete respect.

You can see all the notes to the game on my blog site: http://azchesscoach.wordpress.com/

HUh, lets see. First, even though I don't consider myself a good chess player at all (I think I have way more talent for another things) I think you guys needed to know in that game I wasn't even paying attention (and Leo knows that). I don't like to play any chess game just fur fun (because for me it is not fun to play out of a tournament) and that day I did it just to be nice to Leo that wanted to play me very bad.

I wish I could pay the same attention to another people in tournaments (like in Vegas) like almost everybody does with me. I don't even remember the name of my opponents. And I also wish somebodyd posted once a nice game when I win, because not always I play this bad :)

    Enjoy guys. HAHAHA

I was sitting 4 games beside Cardona in las vegas open though her style is not perfect, her tactics brought her points in U-2200 section. 3 of 4 games I saw she was in a bad position but always tactics helped her. She was leading till the last round in which she lost and came in 3rd.

SchuBomb, have you listened to Verdi's requiem? It's just wonderful. I've listened to Mozart's requiem twice (and I really like Confutatis and Lacrymosa), but Verdi's just gives me the chills. A must-listen.

I would have thought it would come from the requiem mass in latin:

    Lacrimosa dies illa
    Qua resurget ex favilla
    Judicandus homo reus.
    Huic ergo parce, Deus:
    Pie Jesu Domine,
    Dona eis requiem. Amen.

    meaning:

    Tearful will be that day
on which from the ashes will rise
    the guilty man for judgment.
So have mercy, O Lord, on this man.
    Compassionate Lord Jesus,
    grant them rest. Amen.

It's a beautiful passage, even to me as an atheist, and some beautiful music has been made to that text, especially Mozart's requiem.
