Muzio5's chess course

The best way to get better at chess is to do tactics. So here, I will show you how to create tactics. I will break them down into their parts and help you to improve.

Simple tactics:

Deflection

This is a simple motif for deflection: The rook attacking the far-advanced pawn is deflected from it's post, guarding the pawn's promotion.

Now, here is the same theme, just with different pieces and a different situation.

However, if Black is awake, he might find a problem with that last tactic. Just one pawn is in a different position, and suddenly he is a rook up!

This just goes to show, you can't be too careful when playing tactics!

These are simple tactics for beginners. However, they can be used with other tactics as part of a combination, so it is important to know of the possibilities.

Anyway, watch this blog, because more tactics will be up soon - and harder ones too!
