My Military slang

Submitted by Daemon_Panda on Thu, 11/01/2007 at 12:07pm.

In the RP Loki is prone to using army slang. Here is a list of his sayings that you won't understand:

cover my six - short for cover my six o'clock, means watch my back, other numbers can be used 12 = front, 3 = left, 9 = right (like a clock)

Tangoes - plural for tango, means enemy

FUBAR - F---ed Up Beyond Any Repair (don't block me for this erik, please)

Flank - a tactical maneuver that attacks the enemy on 2 sides

It's a Chech site, so mispellings...probably. SIG is a good example.

The terms are from Dick Marcinko's Rogue Warrior books though. The guy used to be a Red Cell Seal. They did alot of aggressor training stuff. They actually boarded the took control of the carrier my squadron was on once.

...but anyway. I don't see alot of those terms getting used here, but some...yeah.

I'm not quite sure if I would trust that page, it was poorly formated and I saw some misspellings, like Sig Sauer instead of the proper designation SIG Sauer (I'm almost 100% certain that its SIG). If you wrote it... at least give me a two day headstart so I can hide properly.

Seal Words

Thought I should add this, since I've started Rping John Warlock. I'll get a profile up for him before going full tilt into his story though.

Are you using a clock which goes anti-clockwise? Surely 3 should be right and 9 should be left? I suppose your way is correct is you were holding the clock above your head so that it is faced downwards aswell.

Yeah, pickle. Like "Pickle off a round!". It does refer to bomb release.

I'm former military. I'm also coming out of Guild Wars and Age of Conan Rp's, so the mil-slang is kind of refreshing.

Yeah, at first I was confused by cover my six, then I had the thought that it could be like on a clock, so cover my back. And I guess I was right. :D

Anyway, Tangoes I've heard of already (the word is used often in Rainbow Six games, and was said a couple times by marines in Halo 3.)

I didn't realise Fubar actually stood for something though heh.

And flank, well, flank, pincer attacks, etc are relatively well known terms.
